Safety is an essential element of a strong and sustainable economy. It safeguards the workforce, improves the reliability of operations, and underpins effective business practices.

Commenting on the creation of the Centre for Safety, the Centre Director Professor Mark Griffin said,

"It is time to see safety as an essential part of the dynamic process through which organisations change and grow. Too often, safety is seen as a brake that holds back change. Through the Centre, we see safety as a catalyst for change and improvement across all aspects of the value chain linking people, technology, and performance."

The Centre for Safety supports the development of practical solutions in a variety of organisational contexts with a particular focus on preventing major accidents in complex systems. It brings together research capabilities and industry expertise, consolidating the faculties, schools and centres contributing to safety teaching and research at UWA, while collaborating with national and international colleagues in both industry and academia.
